1/ The Grand Canal, Venice 2/ San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice | Today we are featuring Paul Stewart and here's what the artist says about himself: "I am a late entrant into the field of oil painting. During my working life, I was employed as a lithographic artist in the printing trade, and it is only since I retired that I have really found the time to concentrate on painting. I am largely self taught, apart from a short period in my early days when I attended the National College of Art in Kildare Street where I studied under the late Sean Keating and Maurice MacGonigal. I paint entirely in oils, mainly landscapes, although I have had a certain amount of success with still-life, and I sometimes feel that perhaps this is the way to go. I have painted in Italy and France, and intend to go back again soon for inspiration. I have exhibited in several galleries, including the Riverside Art Gallery in Tinahely where at present I am showing oil paintings of scenes from Venice." |
