This is the first in a series of paintings by Senan O’Brien showing various scenes from the uninhabited Scattery Island in the Shannon estuary. It has been uninhabited since 1978. The island also has the ruins of a large monastic settlement founded by St. Senan in the 6th Century. The island is easily accessible by ferry from Kilrush. The Office of Public Works is currently engaged in a restoration program. These paintings, when completed, will also be available as prints.
